Cloverdale City Council discussing council vacancy, drought conditions

At its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 12, the Cloverdale City Council will discuss its newly vacant council seat, consider proclaiming a local emergency due to drought conditions and annual assessments for Landscaping and Lighting Assessment District Zones 1-7. The council will also reorganize, selecting a mayor for the term ending in December 2021 and appointing a vice mayor, if necessary. Facing the opioid crisis: Local doctors ask you to share your stories

The opioid epidemic, which includes everything from prescription narcotics to heroin, is now the greatest public health crisis of our time. Last year there were over 64,000 drug overdose deaths, a 22 percent increase over the previous year. This is more than the fatality rate of automobile accidents or any other cause of accidental death.

Military veterans and ALS

My wife, Susan, died from ALS in 2007 and donated her body to research. A few weeks ago, studies found that NFL players are at greater risk of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).  Papers like this one ran stories about the news and rightfully so. But with Veterans Day approaching on Sunday November 11, how many of us know that a much, much larger segment of our population — military veterans — also is at greater risk of Lou Gehrig’s Disease?
