With the beginning of a new year comes the resolutions to eat healthier, stop bad habits and spend more time exercising, and local health clubs are helping residents do just that.
Fitness centers such as Parkpoint Health Club in Healdsburg, Anytime Fitness in Larkfield and Curves in Windsor are offering special deals to help people work toward their goals in 2013.
“It is always hard to get over that first of the year hurdle but find something you like to do that motivates you and try to stick with it, try out different things and see what works for you,” said Parkpoint Membership Director Emily Avila.
Parkpoint offers a large selection of classes including Zumba, cycling, Pilates, muscle; two pools, spa services and a nutritionist, personal training and personal training for Pilates.
“A lot of our members say we are a community within a community, you are getting some exercise in, having coffee with friends or socializing after your workout,” Avila said.
For the New Year, Parkpoint is offering a discount on enrollment fees and an incentive credit program to those who chose to participate in at least six out of nine activities offered.
“It is so important right from the beginning that people get inspired to be here in the club, I think that if you can figure out how to get fitness in your life for a month, you will start seeing the benefits and you will take care of your own motivation to come in,” said Brett Livingstone, owner of Anytime Fitness in Larkfield.
When joining Anytime Fitness, members receive three complementary training sessions including familiarizing members with the machines, creating a workout program and setting individual goals.
“I find so many excuses when people come in as to why they can’t get back in the gym or why they can’t make it to the gym, it might be that they have not been inspired but I hear a lot of people say that they don’t have enough time so we try to work on those things, first there are 168 hours in a week, give your body two of them,” Livingstone said.
Staff at Anytime Fitness said that it is important to schedule the time for your workouts and that even working at a gym it can be hard to fit it in if they don’t make that time for themselves as well.
“If people are interested in getting fitness into their life then what they need to do is find a place that is convenient, find a place that they are comfortable in and a place that supports the direction that they want to go,” Livingstone said.
Anytime Fitness offers a seven-day pass to individuals interested in trying out the fitness center before joining and will be offering a discount to those joining in the New Year.
For residents that are interested in circuit training, Curves in Windsor offers 30-minute workout plans that move people from machine to machine working on their entire body.
“All of our machines are hydraulic machines which means that you are moving fluid, so it is the most like swimming than any other form of exercise but it is weight-bearing resistance machines,” said owner Karen Bayly.
Bayly and her co-owner Judy Hull said that most of their members are women but they do offer memberships to men.
“We all know that it is important to just keep moving and as you age you are losing muscle, so you want to maintain your muscle mass as you age and your joints and I think it becomes more crucial, although it is always important, to exercise,” Bayly said.
In the New Year, Curves will be launching a new program, ‘Curves Complete’ that will add meal planning and coaching to the exercise membership.
