West County high school teams took care of business in week three of the Sonoma County League campaign, as both El Molino and Analy came away with convincing wins against overmatched opponents.
The four-time defending league champion Tigers spoiled Piner’s Homecoming party in a 68-0 romp in Santa Rosa, while a resurgent Lion’s squad ran roughshod over winless Elsie Allen, 47-18.
This Friday, Oct. 21, the Tigers (3-0, 6-1) will play host to Healdsburg, while the Lions visit Petaluma. JV and varsity kickoff times are 5 and 7:30 p.m.
Tigers run roughshod
Analy has made short work of nearly all league opponents since the 2012 season, and Saturday’s visit to Piner was no exception. The Tiger’s defensive unit held the Prospectors to just 8 yards of total offense, including a negative 24 yards on the ground.
“Our offensive line played their best game of the year and we were able to run the ball well,” Tigers head coach Dan Bourdon said. “When we can be balanced between run/pass on offense we’re tough to slow down.”
Analy was beyond tough against Piner, as quarterback Jack Newman directed first-quarter drives resulting in an 18-yard touchdown jaunt from Bennett Simpson, a 57-yard scoring strike to receiver Eric Bendyk and a pair of 10-yard touchdown runs from Joey Lucas and Simpson to grab a 28-0 lead at the end of one.
The Prospectors offered little resistance to the potent Tiger offense in the second period, as Newman found Bendyk on a 45-yard dagger, followed by touchdown runs from Simpson (5 yards), Jacob Ponzo (8 yard reception) and Lucas (3 yards) for a 55-0 cushion at the break.
The Tigers emptied their bench after intermission, closing out the game with a pair of third-quarter scoring runs (3, 5 yards) from Cristian Fajardo en route to a 68-0 rout.
Newman completed 15 of 21 pass attempts from 298 yards and 3 touchdowns in two quarters of action, while other top offensive players included Bendyk (5-130 yards receiving, 2 TDs), Lucas (6-79 yards rushing, 2 TDs), Simpson (5-44 yards rushing, 3 TDs, 2-59 yards receiving), Fajardo (5-76 yards rushing, 2 TDs), Spencer Vogel (5-47 yards receiving), Ross Simmons (2-49 yards receiving) and Ponzo (1-8 yards receiving, TD).
Leading defenders were Nick Chase (3 tackles, 7 assists, sack), Anthony Lepori (1, 10), Connor Kearney (1, 6), Toren Callison (1, 7), Theo Kolybakos (1, 5), Andy Noonan (3 tackles), Darrick Smith (1, 3, sack, FF), Jackson Parks (3 tackles), Jordan Parks (3 tackles), Gabe Tanner-Reyes (3 tackles), Donovan Hall (1, 1) and one tackle apiece from Austin Burnham, Carson Pforsich, Nick Savage, Remi Foggetti, Hunter Harris and Lucas.
Lions power past Lobos
El Molino (3-0, 4-3) kept pace with the Tigers atop the SCL standings with a lopsided win over visiting Elsie Allen. The Lions set the tone on the opening kickoff when freshman standout Jalen Hall return the opening kickoff 75 yards for the game’s first touchdown.
El Mo kept its foot on the gas throughout an explosive first half, getting two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Avery Ransome, along with scoring bursts from running backs Carmelo Salas and Alex Radia to take a 40-12 lead at the break. The Lions called off the dogs in the second half on their way to an eventual 47-18 win.
“The team played well in the first half, but not so great in the second,” El Mo coach Randy Parmeter reported.
