El Mo talent and versatility keys in over PinerĀ
The El Molino boys locked up the Sonoma County League track & field championship on May 3, easily defeating visiting Piner, 90-46 to complete an unbeaten regular season.
The SCL pennant is the first for the Lions since 2004
As theyāve done all season, El Molino used exceptional talent and versatility to vanquish the Prospectors, with most athletes earning points in several events.
Logging first-place finishes for the varsity boys were Brian Schulz (1,600, 3,200 meters), Jack Fricker (110 hurdles, long jump, triple jump), Sire Clark (200, 400 meters), Avery Ransome (discus) and Austin Kelsey (shot put). In addition, the boys also logged a win in the 4 x 100 meter relay.
The varsity girls were not to be upstaged, scoring a comfortable 88-44 team win over Piner.Ā Leading the way for the girls were event winners Aubrianna Tait (100 meters, 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles), Ava Peterson (400 meters, discus), Sydney Casey (pole vault), Jaquelin Ramirez (200 meters), Alicia Montano (long jump, triple jump) and Sara Flores (shot put). El Mo also swept the relay events.

The high school track & field season will heat up this week as the Running Lions and Tigers strive for peak performance at the annual Sonoma County League Championships.
This yearās meet will be hosted by Sonoma Valley High School (at Piner HS), with the trials starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, followed by the final events beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 13.
The goal for all participants will be a top-six finish, good for advancement to the North Coast Section Redwood Empire qualifier on Saturday, May 20. Ā
