Thanks from Courtney’s
EDITOR: On behalf of the committee for Courtney’s Pumpkin Patch, we would like to thank the Soil King Garden Center; Patrick, Jammie, Kaylee and PJ King and Tim and Nikole Karis for their very generous donation of $10,330 to Courtney’s Pumpkin Patch. This amount came from the proceeds of their fourth annual Tomato Fiesta.
We would like to thank all the vendors, volunteers and community support and Soil King Garden staff for making sure the event was successful.
A giant thank you to Steve and Logan Jirout who donated their top prize winning, 330-pound pumpkin from the Tomato Fiesta to Courtney’s Pumpkin Patch and a big thank you to Logan for working so hard selling lemonade at the Tomato Fiesta and donating your proceeds. Also, thank you to Wes Madsen for donating your giant pumpkin to Courtney’s Pumpkin Patch. Both giant pumpkins were used in pictures and auctioned off at our event.
This is the third time we have been selected as the honored recipients of the Kings’ annual donation to a local nonprofit. The first time we received the donation all the funds went to Courtney’s Scholarship at Cloverdale High School. This year, as well as last year, the donated funds will be solely designated for aid to local cancer patients.

Crystals 4 Critters
EDITOR: The Cloverdale Museum of History joined with Karmic Beads & Gems and Lucy DeMaris Face Painting for a three-day fundraising event and raffle (October 27-29),  at the History Center, “Crystals 4 Critters” to raise funds for the Sonoma Humane Society to help with the overwhelming demand created by the devastating fires.
On Monday, Oct. 30 we delivered to the Sonoma Humane Society much-needed funding including almost $900 in cash donations and a truckload of supplies such as pet beds, cat and dog food, leashes, kitty litter and other items donated by the community.
Crystals 4 Critters was the brainchild of Jenny and Charlie Macias of Karmic Beads & Gems. They visit Cloverdale twice a year to put on their gem show at the Cloverdale History Center, and wanted to do something to help support the community. They donated a giant amethyst crystal valued at $1,000 to the raffle and 50 percent of the proceeds of crystal sales.
Thanks to all the local Cloverdale businesses and residents who donated gift certificates,  supported the raffle, brought in supplies and helped with the three-day event: Bear Republic, Bolt, El Mocajete, E’s Nails, Piacere, Railroad Station, Thai Spice, Tien Yuen, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Papa’s Pizza.
The Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce donated publicity and social media support.  Thanks to I-ROC for supplying space for signage. We wish to thank the community for coming together.  Donations came in from all over the U.S. in response to Facebook.

Fair trade fundraiser
EDITOR: Mark your calendars for an exciting evening, Friday Nov. 17, from 3 to 7 p.m. Once again, the United Church of Cloverdale is working with One World Fair Trade in Healdsburg to bring fair trade to Cloverdale. In the past, One World Fair Trade has donated 20 percent of the proceeds from the sale to UCC, which has turned those funds over to Wallace House, for the benefit of those in our community who need housing assistance. This year, Wallace House has asked that such proceeds be redirected to those who have become homeless as a result of the recent fires.
The sale will be at One World Fair Trade (104 Matheson Street, Healdsburg Plaza). You will have the opportunity to browse through all the products available at the store; beautiful handmade crafts, home décor, clothing and accessories, jewelry, musical instruments, Christmas decorations, toys, books, games and much, much more. Ray Ballestero, President of One World Fair Trade has this to say. “There is a quote that inspires us: Be the change we want to see in the world.”
This is a unique opportunity for you to be a part of that change. Every purchase you make will not only support a system that helps Third World artisans earn an honest living, but 20 percent of your purchase will also directly benefit those in our community who are experiencing an extraordinary and unusual need at this time.

Appreciated fire coverage
EDITOR: The effort you put into your writing and care for others was so evident in the recent issues of the papers. Reports by Amie (Windsor), Bleys (Rose) and Heather (Bailey), along with the other staff writers were so moving and heartfelt for the pain of the area. Thank you.
