Not for safety, for limited liability
EDITOR: Paltry Gas & Electric (PG&E) has done it again. No electricity for the third time in October. In anticipation of the utility’s PSPS (public safety power shutoff), which I believe are not invoked to ensure public safety, but to limit PG&E’s liability, we lost electric power on Oct. 26.
Adding insult to injury, the utility likely sparked the Kincade Fire with faulty equipment that remained energized in spite of its own PSPS. Over 200,000 Sonoma County residents were forced to evacuate.
But Paltry Gas & Electric was not done abusing their customers. The utility, without any advance notification, one day later, shut off the natural gas, which our family had been using for bathing (hot water), cooking (stove top and grill) and providing electricity.
We had just completed the installation of a whole house natural gas generator on the day of the first blackout in Cloverdale. This solution overcame the lack of electricity until PG&E also turned off the natural gas spigot without prior notification (on Oct. 27). How can PG&E get away with such incompetence?
Residents of Cloverdale demand more from their utility provider than spotty and paltry service. As of Oct. 29 there appeared to be no end in sight to the outages.

Thank you Cloverdale Kiwanis and Lions
EDITOR: Big kudos to the both clubs. They stepped up to the task of providing hot meals to all of us during the power outage. They provided these hot meals to anyone who came to the fairgrounds, and stood on that hot blacktop all day and into the evenings providing us all with hot food.
I for one want them all to know how much I, and I’m sure everyone else, appreciated their acts of kindness.
Cloverdale is truly a town of volunteers. Not only did they provide hot food, but thanks go out to all the folks that brought the wonderful Mexican food also. The Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation from Santa Rosa showed up with a huge load of soft warm blankets, each one being made from 70 plastic bottles.
Hot food was also trucked in from out of town for all to enjoy. I’m sorry I do not know who it was from, and the list goes on, but our Cloverdale Kiwanis and Lions Club members were there for the duration, cooking and serving.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You’re appreciated so very much.
