Vista Oaks
EDITOR: I attended the City Council meeting on October 23, 2018 because it addressed the Thompson Development Group’s Vista Oaks Subdivision, a proposed subdivision to be built on 46+ acres directly above our home. I listened as Thompson addressed possible fire risks at the top of their hill where dozens of homes are to be built, risks for which Thompson acknowledged responsibility. Thompson very “proactively” discussed their abatement endeavors to address the extreme fire risks.
For instance, Thompson approached “Goats R Us” as one possible fire abatement fix but it was rejected because the goats’ bid exceeded $25,000. Thompson approached another business but was cautioned that any fire abatement cleanup could start the very fire they would be hired to prevent. Thompson admitted they haven’t acted on any other options. They’ve been on notice. Given our horrific new yearlong fire season and Thompson’s failure to act, there could soon be no options left.
I visited the site last weekend and it appears little has been done to address this issue. Given Thompson’s negligence, as discussed, what other corners have been cut as they seek to build these dozens of homes? The least Thompson could do is to clear the perimeter with a bulldozer. It’s like we have PG&E atop this windy and unstable hill.
Finally, as an 18-year resident, I know drivers speed up on N. Cloverdale Boulevard. as they exit town. Unless I missed something, there was no talk of traffic lights, crosswalks, widening the road or creating left-hand turn lanes at the Hamburger Ranch across from the entrance to this development. Cloverdale will pay the price for this dangerous traffic condition.
