More Nifty
Editor: Just when you think you’ve experienced all there is about Healdsburg, the first Healdsburg International Short Film Festival was held this past weekend at the Raven Film Center. First of all, thank you Kurt and Pamela Demorest and Robert and Patricia Weiss for your willingness to share your talents and love of film … you are the type of folks every community needs … and the 50 short films, culled from 600 submissions from 22 countries, were unbelievable and a delight to view regardless of whether or not you were supposed to cry, laugh, or think. An incredible weekend was enjoyed by everyone who participated.

Preventing cancer
Editor: We all want to know we have made a difference in the life of another. This year our community has a unique opportunity to make an impact on the lives of many.
The third Cancer Prevention Study of the American Cancer Society will be enrolling participants at Redwood Regional Medical Group in Santa Rosa on November 3, 7 and 9. As part of enrollment, individuals who choose to participate will simply fill out a comprehensive survey packet about health history, provide a small blood sample (to be collected by trained phlebotomists) and provide a waist measure. Enrollment will take approximately 45-60 minutes. From that point forward, study participants will be followed over time to update information via periodic, mailed surveys. Your involvement in CPS-3 will help American Cancer Society researchers understand the causes of, and ultimately determine ways to prevent cancer.
If you are willing to make a long-term commitment to the study (which involves completing follow-up surveys periodically over the next 20-30 years), are between the ages of 30 and 65 years old and have never been diagnosed with cancer, then you will want to participate in this study.
If you don’t meet the eligibility requirements, your significant participation comes from telling everyone you know about the opportunity to help prevent cancer. Â

Supporting McCaffery
Editor: I recently had the pleasure of playing in a charity golf tournament with Shaun McCaffery. Shaun, Nancy Palambo, and myself made up a team from the Sunrise Rotary in Healdsburg. We had a great time, won the trophy for the team that had the most fun (last place) and golf lessons for all of us.
I know Shaun to be a person who is interested in his community. Now I know he can take immense amounts of frustration and continue to function. I will vote for Shaun for City Council in the November elections.
