Restoring access
Editor:
A few brief words to commend the city and staff for restoring access to the canyon above Porterfield Creek west of Clover Springs. The new bridge looks really solid. Its been open maybe a month and I’ve seen firefighters from CDF training, walkers from the local AAUW chapter and many hikers and dog walkers back in this idyllic spot. The activity restored to the canyon likely will give pause to anyone planning illegal activity.

Cloverdale cares
Editor:
Citizens of Cloverdale — you donated, dined at Mary’s Pizza Shack, and donated some more. Thanks to your generosity, the “Stock a Student Classroom” project was an awesome success! We were able to give the schools paper, notebooks, pens, crayons, pencils, markers, binders, scissors, glue, rulers — the list goes on.
The organizers (United Church of Cloverdale) would like to recognize those generous individuals who dropped supplies in the donation boxes around town, or who gave us a check. And of course the project wouldn’t have been such a success without the help of:
• Other churches — Grace Lutheran, St. Peters Catholic, Good Shepherd Episcopal, Vineyard Hills
• Service Clubs and organizations — American Legion, Cloverdale Firefighters, Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Lions, Rotary, Police Officer’s Assn., Dispatcher’s Assn., Clover Springs
• Businesses who hosted donation boxes — Cloverdale Pharmacy, Owl Café, Antiques & Uniques, Tian Yuen, Ruth McGowan’s, Vino di Amore, Mail Center, Yogurtdale Blvd., Library, 1st  Street Barber, Management Connections
• Businesses who distributed Dine & Donate flyers — Wirt’s Barber shop, 1st Street Barber, A Cut above, Bella Moda, R Salon, Downtown Hairworks, Boulevard Kuts, Plaza Cuts & Perms
Teachers at Washington and Jefferson — Cloverdale cares. Parents of students at Washington and Jefferson — Cloverdale cares. Students of Washington and Jefferson — Cloverdale cares!

Cloverdale Boys & Girls Club
Editor:
It is absolutely absurd that the Boys and Girls Club is sitting empty as stated in last week’s paper. The School Board should be able to figure out a simple solution of bussing the children to the club. We have a beautiful and wonderfully staffed building that is not being used for the benefit of our children. The children are not being cared for after school in the gyms of Jefferson and Washington Elementary Schools. This is not a good option.
When I was in school the custodians were also the bus drivers. I am sure this could work in this instance. There also might be one of the staff at the Boys and Girls Club who could qualify to drive the bus. They will have no job at all if there are no children at the club.
In this critical time in a child’s life I would certainly hope the School Board could find a way to bus these children to this wonderful facility that Cloverdale is so fortunate to have.
