Sad day in Sebastopol
Editor: I was saddened to read of the disastrous fire that destroyed this establishment (“Historic Frizelle Enos building gutted in weekend inferno,” July 18). It was, indeed, a gathering place and also a place that I visited often with my dad, Pat Irish. Years ago, I remember getting a postcard in the mail around Easter that allowed us to get a dozen baby chicks. We would raise them and eat them as fryers. Since we lived in the country, we often went there to buy things we needed for our place on Coffee Lane. I remember the bulletin boards and meeting people that we knew. It was always exciting to go along to Frizelle and Enos. I’ll bet I never turned down the opportunity to shop there.

Good work
Editor: The following is directed to Sebastopol City Council:
Dear City Councilmembers,
It took a few weeks, but I have to thank you for the two very wise decisions regarding the “progress” of Sebastopol. I think the chain-link fence and all the weeds on what could have been the CVS parking lot, and sitting areas, are so much more attractive. I hadn’t seen that when you made the decision, but it’s so clear now, isn’t it?
And then the vacant Pasta Bella and the dirt yard next to it. Truly, to have let Amy’s Kitchen buy that property and use that drive through, the first one in town with Kentucky Fried Chicken, and their offer to build a park on the empty lot would have been so much worse. I didn’t realize your insight, but now after months of viewing those two spots, I finally get what your thoughts were — oh, there was no thought.
Well, we’ll all get to continue looking at those two beautiful spots and will continually thank the current city council. Good work folks.

Efren’s enemies
Editor: Ah, Efren’s enemies. It would be nice if the vultures wanting to destroy Efren Carrillo would wait until there were some actual charges and a trial, and a verdict, before they lynched him. The West County “politically correct” people have always despised Carrillo. You know, he’s just not the right … ah, “image.”
