My skateboard heroes
Editor: In case there were any doubts, I’d like to remind Sebastopol that we have great kids in this town. This is how I know: Last week my husband, grandson and I spent the morning walking leisurely through town, making several stops from the library to the used books store with many places in between. It was when we were in our last store I realized I didn’t have my purse.
I raced back to the plaza where we had been tossing good luck pennies in the fountain. No purse. I sped off for home to make phone calls and get a car so I could retrace our route. My purse, naturally, held credit cards, health insurance card, phone, car keys and other valuables.
Just as I reached the heart-thumping top of my street I saw two young people coming down our front steps. I yelled out to them but they jumped on skateboards and took off the other way. When I got to the house there was my purse hanging from the front door. Â
I ran down the street looking for my skateboard Samaritans, but they were long gone. I assume they were teenagers. Maybe they found my purse at the bakery or the coffee house or under a park bench. The point is they found it, looked inside to see my driver’s license with our home address, delivered it anonymously and sped off.
Thank you Sebastopol kids or whoever you were.
