Fortunate to have their help
EDITOR: On the front page of the May 4 issue of the Reveille, there is a story about new sculptures for the Sculpture Trail. With the article is a photo of two Cloverdale Public Works employees helping to install a sculpture.
The two employees are Craig Johnson and Curtis Waller. I have worked with these two gentlemen installing and de-installing sculptures for over 10 years. Craig and Curtis have the skills to work with the sculptures, they are polite and patient with all sculptors and their helpers, making the sculptors feel comfortable with their moving each piece. I feel fortunate to have Craig and Curtis assist every year, knowing the install and de-install will go smoothly. The city must also be thanked for giving Craig and Curtis time away from their usual duties, and the use of the city’s forklift to keep public art alive and well in Cloverdale.

Public Service Recognition Week
EDITOR: Across the country and in communities like ours, government employees serve and protect us every day. Throughout the year, but especially during Public Service Recognition Week, May 7-13, we should gratefully acknowledge their service.
Public employees are there for us at the local, state and federal level. They work side by side with our military at home and abroad to defend our country and provide care to our veterans. They protect our communities from violence, teach our children, deliver our mail and safeguard the safety of our food and medicines. They ensure these essential functions are financed, that Social Security checks arrive on time, and that our borders and airports are secure. When disasters occur, they come to our rescue and help us recover.
I am a retired park ranger, having worked with the National Parks Service, the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; I know up close the dedication and caring that park employees have for their environment and the park visitors.
During Public Service Recognition Week, please join me in thanking and recognizing the important work of the public employees in our community.
