Letter to Town Council
Editor:
I am writing this in the hope that the Town Council will carefully focus on the impact to include the social changes that will occur in Windsor with the commercial and townhouse/apartment units presently planned for construction.
As “trusted” city officials, you must ensure the community image and quality of life is retained and enhanced for those presently living and those soon to be living in Windsor.
Here are major concerns that must be dealt with for the overall benefit of the community:
Police and Fire Official Input: Requirements voiced by the police and fire officials for public safety must be addressed and incorporated without exception.
Residential Density: The construction of 750 residential units planned for the Bell Village and Windsor Mill projects is simply too many for the township to digest without forgoing ‘image and quality of living’ standards that are vital to both present and future residents.
With an average of three-plus people per unit – a best guess – will add over 2,250 people to the “urban infill.” Recommendation: For the sake of the community it is strongly suggested that the density be reduced by 20 percent (150 units over 450 people) and, at your discretion, spread the reduction between Bell Village and Windsor Mill Projects.
Dog Exercise Plan: The need to plan for a dog park is a must for both Bell Village and Windsor Mill Projects.
The Town Green Village – Central Park – must not become the exercise and dumping ground dog owners that are insensitive to public requirements for cleanliness, upkeep and safety etc.
An estimated 50 percent of the new households will own one or two dogs – adding over 300 prized and hopefully loved pooches to be incorporated into the community.
With the opening of Oliver’s Market and the eventual arrival of the Sonoma Marin Train, there will be significant traffic generated from all around Windsor thereby adding to that created by the Bell and Mill residential projects.
All of this traffic will support the boutique shops that exist in Town Green Village.
It is the total of these events that could overwhelm the area from a traffic, infrastructure, and density standpoint.
Mr. Bisno has an investment in the property he has purchased and will do anything to maximize the profit without regard to its overall impact.
His monetary contributions to curry favor with local council members have been noted.
It is Mr. Bisno that must give in to the vision and plans for the future of Windsor. It is you, as elected representatives, who must look out for the residents by positively addressing each of the concerns mentioned above.
In closing, I would ask each of you to think about what is best for Windsor, not the whole of Sonoma County.
With a number of major impactful events on the horizon, it is paramount that Windsor’s image, quality of life, and property values are protected and enhanced by each decision you make.
Your integrity, vision, and leadership are front and center and are vital at this pivotal point in Windsor’s future.
