Forward together
EDITOR: The lower Russian River has a history of tolerance and commitment to one another. Distant from the county center and without elected municipal representation, Guerneville and our other river communities have evolved as unique islands of creativity and acceptance. The effects of homelessness are real. It affects not only the health of unhoused residents but, at times, tests the patience of the community.
As the leaders of Guerneville School District, West County Health  Centers and West County Community Services, we believe a successful path forward can only be reached through inclusion, compromise and dialogue. The March 29th Town Hall meeting brought clarity to certain issues: regardless of what site is chosen for a homeless medical clinic, services center and shelter, our community has to finally take decisive action; the river community will only succeed if we come together, listen to each other, and find common ground to increase housing, employment, substance abuse and behavioral health services in our community; WCHC, WCCS and GSD are committed to a solution-oriented partnership.
The hard work, empathy and creativity that built our unique river community will ensure our future success. Contact one or all of us to seek and share facts and continue the dialogue. Together, we will move forward.
