Do something for yourself
Editor: As many of you know, I was diagnosed with colon cancer five years ago. I had postponed my colonoscopy for many years for many reasons that made sense to me. When I finally did it, the cancer was found. March is colon cancer screening month. Please don’t postpone that colonoscopy your doctor has been urging you to get. Make a list.
1. Talk with your doctor about it and decide when it is needed.
2. Make an appointment to have it done. Our local surgeons can do your colonoscopy at Healdsburg District Hospital. Local gastroenterologists can do your colonoscopy at HDH as well. My doctor, Dr. Auld, does them at HDH one day a month. See, you don’t need to even leave Healdsburg to have it done.
3. Feel good about doing something to keep you living for many more years!

Pancake thanks
Editor: On behalf of the Healdsburg Kiwanis Club, I would like to express our appreciation to the entire community for your support of our 2016 Pancake Breakfast fundraiser held on March 20.
In particular, we would like to thank all the businesses that sponsored the event, as well as the Norgrove family, the Bear Republic, Healdsburg McDonald’s and Lisa Lin for their food donations. Due to the generosity of all these businesses and individuals, the event was a resounding success which was fitting as it also marked the breakfast’s 60th anniversary.

Put housing on Cerri
Editor: I would suggest that the highest and best use of the Cerri property would be a housing project with a mix of low income and affordable units. It’s way too valuable to waste on a parking lot, or market rate housing for that matter.
The city leaders and a very high percentage of citizens have been talking about the critical need for housing which regular working people can afford for a while now, and this is a chance to “walk that talk.” This is especially true given that, as I understand, the city owns the property, which should keep costs down.
While I’m at it, increasing the limit on market rate housing, as proposed in the new GMO, seems to run counter to what the community is saying it needs. If anything, the limit should be lowered, if we are serious about balancing our housing stock.
