Barbra Friedman, who recently won an award for raising the most money in Barb’s Tri, a new triathalon that raises money for cancer patients, submitted the following thank you note to the West County community:
Dear friends, family and valued clients: In just the past few weeks we raised more than $6,000 for cancer patients in Sonoma County. The Institute for Health and Healing helps cancer patients get through chemotherapy or radiation by receiving six sessions of massage, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, integrative psychotherapy and/or nutritional counseling in Santa Rosa.
Barb’s Race was founded by Barbara Recchia, a longtime Healdsburg resident and two-time cancer survivor. The triathlon has raised almost $1 million for these services over the past 15 years.
It was your generous donations and incredible support that helped me get through the half-mile swim, 13-mile bike ride and 3.5-mile run.
It was only a month ago that I decided to sign up for Barb’s Tri because I wanted to raise money and awareness for this valuable program. I spent more time at my computer before and after work reaching out to you all than “training.” It was so easy to put off riding, running or swimming, in hopes of getting one more donation.
As it turned out, I was in fine shape (thanks to my water aerobics classes at Ives Pool) and had no aches or pains during or after the race. I encourage any of the women reading this to consider joining me in next year’s Barb’s Tri. We can train together, have lots of fun and raise money for IFHH.
I want to say a giant thank you to a special friend who matched my fundraising efforts up to $2,500.
Thank you all again for supporting Barb’s Tri and all my efforts. Let’s be unstoppable. With love and gratitude,
Barbra Friedman
