Charcuterie thanks
Editor: Thank you Healdsburg for welcoming me and my family some 20 years ago by making us feel at home tout de suite! Nobody achieves success without the help of others and the Charcuterie was a brilliant success because of you. I would like to thank all of my people who worked for me, many of you will remain like family to me and will never be forgotten. To the “Indian Peach lady,” I thank you, to the “mushroom guy,” I thank you, to all of you who brought me their precious produce and such to use in my kitchen, I thank you, and to all of my patrons whether you came to visit me weekly, yearly or just passing by, I thank you. After 20 years of serving you, I am sorry to have to bid farewell so abruptly. You remain in my heart and perhaps (why not!) I may serve you again. A Bientot.

Sad fact
Editor: Thank you Shonnie Brown and others for articulate letters concerning the impending meat market. Despite ongoing protestations (see Richard Gere’s soft shoe dance in “Chicago”) the sad fact remains that the people of Healdsburg are stuck with a monstrosity, along with a badly configured section of Center Street. Friends, looks like we’ll just have to suck it up and move on, hoping that more oversight is provided in future building projects.

Jazzy event next week
Editor: We are writing to encourage your readers to participate in one of the year’s best mixes of wine, food and music when the fourth annual Jazz on the Menu takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Healdsburg and Geyserville. It’s a perfect opportunity for locals and visitors to explore any one of 10 participating restaurants while supporting the highly successful Healdsburg Jazz Festival Music Education Program. Participating restaurants donate 25 percent of sales to the HJF music education fund.
Over 30 musicians in small jazz ensembles will be playing at the restaurants between 6 and 9 p.m., with hundreds of dining couples and groups turning out for the benefit. The dining room vibes and conversations are all very “jazzy.” It’s easy, fun and enjoyable to join the evening’s festivities: just make dinner reservations at any of the 10 participating restaurants and show up to eat, drink and be cool. Capping the evening is the After Party at Costeaux French Bakery, 417 Healdsburg Ave., from 7:30-10:30 p.m., featuring the Ricard Peixoto Quintet playing a mix of Brazilian and jazz standards. The Healdsburg High School Jazz Band is the opening band. Tickets to the after party are $15, and they usually sell out quickly. More details, including participating restaurants and bands, and After Party tickets are available at www.healdsburgjazzfestival.org.
