Slow down
Editor:
I think there is more than just a casual message here — slow down inside the city limits. I remember when I was a child and Mrs. Zarucci, age 80-plus at the time, was pinned under a log truck while crossing at First Street. Dragged 100 yards. Perished. The message was the same… slow down. Please!

Turn Cloverdale into art town
Editor:
I guess everybody’s been wondering where the old lady went! Nowhere! I’m still here at the home in Boonville. Marcia, who types my letters, had to go away for awhile and just got out. Not her fault, just a mistake in the accounting.
So many exciting things happening in Cloverdale, my old hometown. Why should Healdsburg get the tourists? Best idea I’ve heard: turn Cloverdale into an art town. The Green Lady is a good start. Thank you Arts Council. Plus, she can be dressed up for the holidays: pilgrim outfit, reindeer horns, funny hat on New Year’s Eve, etc.
My idea: Make everybody who lives in town wear one of those French hats (berets) all the time. Some people will grouse but the city council could make a law, and we could probably get them cheap (I can contribute a little money) if we order by the thousand(s).
The artists can sit on the sidewalks and pretend to draw and paint. The tourists will stop to see what they’re doing, then they’ll say, “we might as well stay and have lunch, or dinner, taste wine, get their hair cut, do laundry, etc.
If that doesn’t work: change the town’s name to North Healdsburg. Yes, it sounds drastic and yes it will cost a little money to change the maps and freeway signs but these are difficult times and call for desperate measures.
