Easter rabbits
Editor: With Easter approaching, many people are contemplating
the idea of getting a rabbit as a new friend.
While rabbits can make wonderful companions, many people
unfortunately become overwhelmed by their cuteness and do not take
the time to find out the responsibilities that a rabbit entails
before getting one. Many people think that rabbits are “low
maintenance” compared to a dog or a cat. This really is a grave
misconception; they require as much if not more work than a
cat.
Rabbits are not happy when kept outdoors in hutches, and often
die of fright when predators go by. Domestic rabbits also lack the
abilities that wild rabbits have to survive variable weather
conditions, especially the cold winters in the north and the hot
summers in the south. They also are very social and need
companionship. So they really need to be housed indoors.
Even there, they need plenty of space to hop around for
exercise. Many people also fail to realize that rabbits have a
similar lifespan to that of a dog or cat. A properly cared-for
rabbit will usually live somewhere between eight and twelve years,
although even longer is possible. So getting a rabbit is a major
commitment.

strongly recommend checking those websites out and do the research
before considering a rabbit for Easter.

EDITOR: Regarding a previous letter to the editor from Shepherd
Bliss about leaf blowers, I submit the following poem entitled
“Tales of the Town Crier”
‘Twas the week during spring in our wee town,
That a sound so ungodly of fallen leaves blown,
Spawning missives of constant bleating,
On acts so flagrant that foster much repeating.
Cell phones, chain saws, shot guns or leaf blowers,
Disturb the peace and make his mood sour,
S. Bliss complains, condemns, writes the newspaper
With his tongue and processor as sharp as a rapier.
Noise, phone waves and other sensations,
Cause mental, emotional, and heart palpitations,
Ours is a wee town of liberal persuasion,
A Free Zone accepting his frequent derision.
So gather up people and attend a clinic,
To free us of tools telephonic and gardenic,
Elect dear Bliss our ‘onery(sic) Town Crier,
To eliminate these irritants that are so dire,
For this is a village that can as it could,
But get off the cross, dear Shep, as we need the
wood.

Fun forties invite
EDITOR: The Belles & Beaus seniors group of Sebastopol
Christian Church are providing a 1940’s Party as a gift to the
community on Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
 There will be food, special ’40’s decor, dancing and fab
entertainment by The Fondettes. The attire for this event is 1940’s
era on up through 2010 fashions.
