Windsor; if wishes were fishes we would all live in the sea. I hoped that our growth would be capped at a reasonable number of new homes per year rather than not. We now are approaching 1,000 units with some form of approval and no requirement that they be phased. I wished we would do more than our part in addressing global warming and be a leader in the county, but while we could, we are not going to require new developments to install solar panels to harvest the sun’s energy. I thought home ownership was somewhat foundational in Windsor’s heritage and yet of the 1,000 homes with the go ahead, over 700 are said to be rental units, with less than 300 to be for sale. I know we prioritize walking and biking in our Town, yet I see we spend our reserves on plans, not the bridges required along south Old Redwood Highway and other infrastructure needs. Council approved a $150,000 study to contemplate the removal of the Huerta Gym, the library and the town hall offices to entice a developer to replace it with what, a hotel? A conference center? I was so sure that we valued our open space and the working agricultural lands surrounding us, but yet we look at the more than 60 acres of prime Russian River vines just north of Jenson Lane as an opportunity for development, and not to preserve our agricultural heritage. I was positive that keeping what we consider our small town character did not include increased traffic congestion that comes with housing growth based on the need for inventory rather than focusing on the housing needs of our community. I bet by now you wish I would stop complaining.
