Generous parishioners
Editor: I wanted to write a short letter thanking the Seventh Day Adventist Church membership here in Cloverdale for continuing a great effort to help feed people in need. I coordinate food drives for our local Cloverdale Food Pantry. Each year for over the last seven or eight at least,  they run a community food drive on Halloween weekend. When completed, they deliver the food to the pantry at 202 Commercial Street and unload what our community gives. This year they gave over 125 large crates full of all types of food to be added to the food given to needy, from those who have little money, to those who need extras, and anyone who feels the need to pick up some extra food. Remember if you or someone you know needs food we’re open from 1-3 p.m. on Fridays.

Special interest? Yes
Editor: I am  responding to Mr. Toninato’s letter to the editor last week, in which he claims a special interest group paid for a one-page letter in the Reveille, because I was one of the many who funded that letter. Yes, he’s right we are a special interest group. Our special interest is the responsible economic development of Cloverdale. Far from being a housing development as claimed, what is being proposed is a resort that will bring much needed funds and visitors to our city, a resort that unfortunately cannot coexist at the end of an airport runway for many reasons.
Our airport was not used to fight the Lake County fire. If Mr. Toninato had read the one-page letter he would know the airport runway is too short for emergency services. Normally one wouldn’t want see our airport go or its users impacted, but if our airport could generate the $1 million-plus per year the resort will generate, then we should keep it. Having no airport in that location affords the opportunity to build a much needed sports facility, skate park and dog park. However, that’s icing on the cake. The real cake is economic development. If Mr. Toninato wants to follow the money he can follow it down the financial drain that is our airport. However, this is not about the merits of an airport; it’s about seizing an opportunity for economic development that Cloverdale has never seen before, and will never see again. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but not to their own facts.

Thanks for support
Editor: Nov. 7 has come and gone, and once again the Theta Zeta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and friends would like to thank everyone who helped make our annual holiday craft show the huge success it was. A big thank you to Gene Marcinkowski and his crew of veterans, who helped set up and take down the tables and chairs for the vendors in the vet’s hall. A special thanks to them for the extra efforts in seeing that we had everything we needed. Big thank yous to Mary Jo Winter, The Gazette, and the Cloverdale Reveille for printing our letters and articles. Thanks to the Healdsburg, Windsor and Ukiah newspapers, as well. And, to Ray’s for allowing us to sell our raffle tickets and hand out fliers to their customers.  We hope some of those people received a call to pick up a basket. We appreciate the businesses, local and out of town, that put our fliers in their windows or where their customers could see them. To all the people who came and enjoyed, thank you. With everyone mentioned here, we thank you because you are  the folks that made it the success it was.
