Book sale
Editor: The Healdsburg Friends of the Library just had a book sale. This time, they decided to have Charity, the children’s librarian, pass out a chit to the children for a FREE book. It was so refreshing, and wonderful to see and hear these kids, who were so excited to pick out a book of their very own. Way to go Friends!

Not joking
Editor: I sincerely hope that Lillian Reid was joking last week when she suggested turning our plaza into a parking lot.
However, someone needs to fix the parking situation downtown. Two weeks ago I tried to locate a parking spot to purchase some notions at Fabrications in order to fix a costume for the high school’s production of “Cinderella.” I could have walked from the high school and back again in the time I spent driving around the plaza and up and down a few of the streets off our townsquare. Perhaps if no one is interested in building a parking structure like that which sits next to the SRJC, then perhaps the facade could resemble rows of stately Victorians. And no, I’m not joking.

Senior services
Editor: Recently, there were two separate announcements in the Tribune introducing Roxanne Derr Lemeries as the new “Dining Director” for the Senior Center. Although we always welcome recognition for our program, these announcements were not accurate. Roxanne is actually the Site Director for the Healdsburg Senior Social Club which is a part of the County Council on Aging and Meals on Wheels.
Oftentimes our program is confused with the Healdsburg Senior Center. We both share addresses on Matheson Street and proceed services for our senior community. Whereas the Senior Center caters to the more mobile senior participants, the Social Club provides an avenue for those who may be less ambulatory or homebound.
The goal of the program is to enrich the lives of our elderly who need the assistance of a caregiver or family member. We provide a welcome break for those people three days a week. The Club provides a comfortable environment for members to be with their peers and feel a part of the community.
Roxanne and her group of volunteers are responsible for coordinating activities such as low impact exercise, group discussions, arts and crafts, music and dancing, stimulating word games and visits from school children, etc. She also handles enrollment, snacks and lunch.
We are located at 209 Matheson Street (behind St. Paul’s Church). We are open Monday through Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, please call us at 433-6161. Visitors are always welcome. You may discover our club to be the “right fit.”
