Resort advocate
Editor: I am a big advocate for the proposed Alexander Valley Resort here in Cloverdale. It would make a very impressive entrance into our fair city, add a little panache to our community and most importantly add much needed revenue to the coffers of Cloverdale. The resort would also offer jobs and provide activities for us all, whether it be going to their restaurant, spa or horse shows. An extra benefit if the resort is “a go” is all that airport land that could be put to community use. The sports park would provide young families and senior citizens with much needed recreational activities, a long sought after dog park would benefit another group of our citizens and the relocation of the Citrus Fair would provide a brighter future to that traditional Cloverdale event. There could be even more uses to that space that would benefit our Cloverdale families, our disadvantaged, our children and the future of Cloverdale.
There is also the possibility that the AVR would attract other businesses to our town and fill up those empty storefronts and vacant lots. Seems like a win/win for Cloverdale.
With all the financial woes Cloverdale has (remember the ballot measure we passed that increased our utility bills), I think it is time for another plan. At present it doesn’t look like my tax dollars are being spent well. Why should the citizens of Cloverdale be financially responsible for the airport when there are better options that don’t include subsidizing an endeavor that benefits so few? It seems the City Council is not making good economic sense.
