Politicization
Editor: From the perspective of being at last week’s Sebastopol City Council meeting, I put forward my perception of Councilmember Robert Jacob’s demeanor during the debate over the appointment of Christine Level to the Design Review Board. In particular, Mr. Jacob’s quote “I’ve never seen an appointment so politicized. I’ve never been pressured to appoint someone in this way,” referring to electronic correspondence and public comment (“Sebastopol council comes to stalemate over board appointments,” Jan. 8)
The tone of Mr. Jacob’s voice felt to me like the additional input from his constituency really burdened him, and his comment about never seeing a political appointment so politicized does not make any sense. Is there anything about a political appointment that is not political?
Respectfully (mixed with some fun), if it is too much of a burden for Councilmember Jacob to correspond with his constituency, and if Mr. Jacob wants political appointments to be less politicized, perhaps he should visit Sebastopol’s sister city in Ukraine, which is closer to the communist border.
