Editor: I am very much concerned about the number and type of
developments being considered for construction in the area of the
Windsor Town Green. Specifically, three- and four-story
condominiums above retail shops. It is my understanding that a
motel is also planned for that area. A problem is already beginning
to take place for vehicles driving south on Old Redwood Highway
waiting to turn left at Windsor River Road.
Not too long ago, a vehicle turning left at that location had a
very short waiting time for the signal to change, allowing them to
proceed with their left turn movement. However, at present, there
are times throughout the day, not just morning and evening hours,
that the line of vehicles waiting to make that left turn is so long
that some vehicles have to wait for one or two cycles of the
signals in order to continue.
This, of course, depends on how heavy the traffic flow is on
Windsor River Road and Conde Lane. Both streets are also showing an
increase in vehicle traffic. Additional developments will certainly
add to that problem. Sooner or later that intersection will have to
be revised in order to accommodate a much heavier traffic flow.
I hope the Windsor Town Council considers the increase in
vehicle traffic that will certainly take place prior to granting
permits for increased housing in the Town Green area. It should be
noted that the area north of Windsor is being developed and that
also will add to a vehicle traffic increase.
