I did not know and I am sure many of you are unaware of the “In Memory” Program in Washington D.C. founders of this program were Friends of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund in 1993. This program honors your Vietnam veteran’s life cut short after they returned home.
To have your loved one included in this memorial you will need to complete the application found online at http://www.vvmf.org/memory. You will need to provide a copy of their military record showing proof of service in Vietnam (DD214), a copy of the death certificate and two clear photos of your honoree, preferably one from the Vietnam era and a more recent photo. If you do not have a copy of the DD214 you can obtain a copy from the National Archives Veterans’ Service Records online at www.archives.gov and click on “Veterans’ Service Records.”
Any questions regarding the application process please contact VVMF at in******@vv**.org. The address for further information and donations is Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 1235 South Clark Street, Suite 910, Arlington, VA 22202. The phone number is 202-393-0090.
I was fortunate enough to be able to gather all the required information on my husband while the Wall that Heals was in Windsor and those members who travel with the Memorial were kind enough to get the information back to Washington, D.C. in time for the June dedication.
And, I bet you did not know there is also a Vietnam Women’s Memorial dedicated in July 1993. For more information about that memorial call 202-328-7253.
