Editor: Over two weeks ago I left my garage without knowing that
my checkbook was on the hood of my car. It must have fallen off in
my subdivision as I drove out of town.
To the young lady who called me at my home leaving a phone
message on my machine, telling me you were a concerned citizen and
that you had my checkbook, not leaving a call back number, even
though you advised that you would call back, I want to thank you
for not leaving your phone number, not leaving the checkbook under
my door mat, not leaving it in my mailbox with a protective cover,
and letting me know it was there.
I want to thank you for causing all the inconvenience of opening
a new checking account, for causing my bank to monitor the lost
account to see if there was any activity, for days of worry, for
the lost register so I didn¹t know who I had written a check to,
for keeping the beautiful Golden Retriever checkbook cover, and for
keeping all the documents in the checkbook.
You called yourself a concerned citizen. You never called me
back. If this is an example of a person that is concerned, I¹d like
to meet someone that isn¹t. Maybe someday if this happens to you,
and no one returns what belongs to you, you will know what I have
been through. Thank you so much for being a good neighbor who is so
concerned.
