April 9 begins National Library Week
The theme this year is Libraries Transform. Folks from all around the country were asked what their library means to them.
Some comments:
“It’s more than just books, it’s a place for lifelong learning.”
“I go there to transform my ideas into reality.”
“It’s where I can get access to the tools, technology and training I need.”
“It’s a perfect setting to meet and share a hobby.”
Our Windsor Regional Library is all of the above. Yes, it provides reading material– newspapers, magazines and books. (Scientific research has found that reading as little as a half-hour a day will help you live longer.) But it also offers classes in health and fitness, gardening and cooking (great food, great health, great vibes). And along with individual discussions, cultural events and family activities, there are weekly and monthly opportunities (read to a dog, homework help, lego club, story times) for supportive as well as creative endeavors. Check out this month’s events; they reflect all of the above. Your library is here to bring you and yours joy in imaginative expression and knowledge.
FOWL’s Art Show featuring the high school’s artists. Perhaps one or more of these students will be the next Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Picasso or O’Keefe – each of whom began their artistic careers as teenagers. Possibilities — today: Windsor library, tomorrow: the Louvre, Legion or the deYoung.
Best of all — As of May 1, our library will now be open every Monday. More classes, more discussions, more events, more opportunities to boost your know-how. Yay. Good news for all of us, for our library is actually a community center, and we literally do not know what we would do without it.
