March celebrates the achievements of intrepid women — we might call them wonder women, superheroes of the past and present. Examples of previous honorees, all well-known trail blazers, are Harriet Tubman, Rachel Carson, Wilma Mankiller, Eleanor Roosevelt and Madeline Albright.
This year’s recognition includes the political groundbreaker Geraldine Ferraro, Susan Burton, who fights for criminal justice reform especially for incarcerated women, Arlene Mayerson, a leading attorney in disability rights law; and Pauli Murray who was a civil rights and women’s rights activist.
Their passions and bravery, in standing up to make themselves heard, continue to be the catalysts for making changes. Your library has an abundance of resources describing these heroines, who have all demonstrated courage, strength and defiance. And the theme of this year’s Women’s History Month? Quite apt: “Nevertheless She Persisted!”
