“All good books are alike in that they are truer than if they had really happened and after you are finished reading one you will feel that all that happened to you and afterwards it all belongs to you: the good and the bad, the ecstasy, the remorse and sorrow, the people and the places and how the weather was. If you can get so that you can give that to people, then you are a writer.”
― Ernest Hemingway
And we have wonderful writers right here in Sonoma County, 1,287 of them. Listed on the Sonoma County Library website under “Research,” pull down “Sonoma County Authors Project” and you’ll discover information about readings, ongoing literary and writing groups, as well as community workshops. Events, too, are listed, such as conferences, open mics and release parties.
You can also get more specific. For example, the first of the 24 Windsor writers listed is Jennifer Lynn Alvarez, who conducts our Library’s Writing Clubs for Kids and Adults each month. The author of six books, you’ll find her profile, website and genre.
From fiction to history, travel to psychology, comics to humor, you’ll note quite a variety of informative and entertaining materials. Speaking of which, my own historical novel, The Cards Don’t Lie, was just published in mid-October. I’ll be joining the Authors Project—do check us out.
