Leonora Dowling died of cancer in her Healdsburg home last
Friday, two weeks after celebrating her 67th birthday. “Be a person
of peace and love” was how Leonora always closed her answering
machine message. She walked her talk, changing the world one hug at
a time. Leonora walked out her door each day expecting to meet a
“new friend” and then, amazingly, managed to weave dozens of people
into her personal orbit in a meaningful, ongoing way. Leonora
carried her peace and love banner far and wide. An active member of
the Episcopal Church, she also undertook prison ministry, worked
within the anti-death penalty movement, served disabled children,
and gave generously of herself in countless other ways throughout
her life. Leonora was a supremely creative person. She savored life
and took great joy in beauty. Everything to which she put her hand
was simply gorgeous. Leonora moved to Healdsburg early this year to
be near her son, Jack, her daughter-in-love Lisa, and her grandson
Ivan. A service of remembrance will be held at The Bishop’s Ranch
on Westside Road, December 21 at 3 p.m.
