Leona Colton Lamrock, 95, died on Jan. 18, 2005 in Santa Rosa.
She was born on Jan. 9, 1910 in Glendale to Electa and William L.
Colton. She was the loving mother of Cynthia A. Van Buren and
son-in-law Robert Van Buren of Windsor; sister of Edith Ferguson of
Santa Rosa; and cousin of John Pinoges of Bellevue, Washington. She
was a graduate of Glendale High School and lived in the
Glendale-LaCanada area for more than 60 years. Leona started her
career as a legal secretary and bookkeeper to some of the Hollywood
stars of the 1930s and 1940s. She had a great interest in her home
and garden, California history, and genealogy. Leona’s home in
Glendale was always filled with visiting friends and family, which
created a warm atmosphere. She moved to Sonoma County in 1997 to be
near her daughter. Leona is the great-granddaughter of Philander
Colton and the granddaughter of Charles Edwin Colton, both of whom
came to California in 1847 from Salt Lake City as members of the
First Mormon Battalion and became prominent players in the early
history of California. Charles Colton came to Santa Rosa in 1881
where he homesteaded, and planted a vineyard. Services were held on
Jan. 21 at Daniels Chapel of the Roses in Santa Rosa. The family
prefers that memorial contributions in her memory be made to the
American Cancer Society, Santa Rosa Unit, 1451 Guerneville Road,
Suite 220, Santa Rosa, CA 95403.
