El Molino, Analy place dozens in NCS qualifier meet
West County athletes enjoyed an outstanding day on May 11-13 at the Sonoma County League Track & Field Championships held at Piner High School in Santa Rosa, the first step for athletes with state aspirations.
The action began with the trials on Thursday, followed by the finals on Saturday. Most participants were gunning for a top-six finish, good for advancement to the North Coast Section Redwood Empire Qualifier (NCS REQ) to be held at Redwood High School in Larkspur this Saturday, May 20 (10 a.m.).
Saturday’s SCL Championships was a showcase for the best in the league, and a coronation of sorts for the pennant winning El Molino boys squad, which demonstrated its talent and versatility in out-pointing the field to secure first place. In all, the Lions and Tigers combined to qualify some three dozen athletes to the NCS REQ.
El Molino junior Jack Fricker turned in a Herculean effort in winning four individual titles, while Aubrianna Tait swept the hurdle events for the girls. Also capturing individual titles were El Mo’s Ava Peterson, Brian Schulz and Sire Clark, and Analy’s Ross Simmons and Kim Juarez-Rico.
