Analy blanks Elsie Allen; El Molino falls to Petaluma
It was a mixed bag in abbreviated league high school softball action this week, with both West County teams on opposite ends of a pair of shutouts.
The defending Sonoma County League champion Analy Lady Tigers (5-3, 2-0) made the most of their lone outing on April 4, easily dispatching an overmatched Elsie Allen squad, 14-0 in five innings.
The win was the fourth straight for the surging Tigers, who joined Sonoma Valley as the only unbeaten teams in the SCL.
Analy will resume league play with a road swing this week, beginning with an April 11 (after press time) visit to Piner (4 p.m.) followed by an April road clash at Healdsburg (5 p.m.). The Tigers will wrap up a busy stretch on April 14-15 in the annual Napa Tournament.
Meanwhile, the Lions (3-10, 0-2) weathered their fifth straight loss in a 12-0 loss to visiting Petaluma on April 4. This week, El Molino has scheduled home games against Healdsburg (April 11) and Sonoma Valley (April 13). Both games start at 4 p.m.
Tigers maul Lobos
The disparity in league teams was on full display in Analy’s April 4 meeting with Elsie Allen, as starting pitcher Nicole Mearns (5 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 2 BBs, 5 Ks) tossed a five-inning no-hitter in her first start of the season.
The Tigers got the party started with four runs in the first inning, adding three in the second, five in the third and another pair in the fourth to force an early stoppage in a 14-0 rout.  Top hitters were Makayla Kraemer (4 for 4, 4 runs, RBI), Brianna Lawrence (4 for 4, 2B, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Chloe Hadrich (3 for 4, 2B, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Kahaulani Lua (3 for 4, 2B, 3 runs, 2 RBIs), Mearns (1 for 3, RBI), Emma Castleberry (1 for 2, run) and Cameron Cardoza (1 for 1, run).
Lions fall to Trojans
El Mo played host to perennial power Petaluma on April 4, as the Trojans struck for a combined six runs in the first two frames to bust it wide open. Petaluma added another six for good measure in the fifth on their way to a 12-0 shutout in five innings.
