FOOTWORK — Analy’s Zaida Jenkins is part of a strong core of returnees to the Tigers this season.

Preseason soccer is officially underway for the Lady Lions and Tigers, with each logging one match on the schedule.

The Tigers traveled to Rancho Cotate on Nov. 29, easily defeating the Cougars, 4-0. Goal scorers for the Tigers included Macee Wacholz, Deja Burry, Isa Gilbraith and  Lily Ziemer, with assists going to Kalani Jenkins and Zaida Jenkins.
“Bob (Ryan) and I thought the girls played very well considering it was the first game of our season and one of the first times we have been able to play on a full field,” Analy coach Brittney Briones said. “We were really pleased with effort, vision and overall team play. We need to work on spacing, fitness and finishing, but all of the girls are positive and driven, and you can’t teach that.”
The Tigers (1-0) will host Sonoma Valley this Thursday, Dec. 6 in a 6 p.m. start.
Meanwhile the Lions have played two matches on the preseason circuit, opening the season in a 6-0 loss to Branson on Nov. 26 before logging a 3-2 win over Justin Siena on Saturday.
“Branson is always one of the top teams, and it was a good eye opener for the girls,” El Mo coach Emily Farrant reported. “On Saturday, the girls were behind 2-0 and came back to win the game. Their tenacity was exactly what we were hoping to have this year.”
Lily Dittman scored two goals, while Chloe Kliegl scored one off a free kick.
Next up for the Lions (1-1) is a trip to Berean Christian this Saturday, Dec. 8. The match starts at 11 a.m.
