Windsor set to host first ‘Rumble in the Jungle Jamboree’
The Lady Jaguars are coming off a solid stretch of hoops, winning two of four games played last week.
Windsor (2-3) opened the action on Nov. 29 with a 38-26 win at Healdsburg, and took one of three games played at the challenging Lady Cat Classic hosted by Marin Catholic.
The Jaguars will now change hats to host the first annual Rumble in the Jungle Jamboree this Thursday-Saturday (Dec. 8-10). The Jags will open up on Dec. 8 in an 8:30 p.m. tip-off against Sonoma Valley.
Windsor will also host the 6th annual Freshman Shootout tourney this weekend.
Jags win a pair
Windsor was in command most of the way in a Nov. 29 visit to Healdsburg, jumping out to a 21-11 halftime lead and never looking back en route to a 12-point margin of victory (38-26). Top scorers for Windsor included Samantha Baltazar (8 points, 2 threes), Gabby Giddings (7 points) and Hannah May (7 points).
“Our size should have given us the advantage over the smaller Greyhounds but it wasn’t to be,” Jags coach Jeff Paul said. “The Greyhounds held us to just 38 points, and at one point in the fourth quarter cut the lead to eight before we increased the lead to 12 points.”
Windsor opened the Lady Cat Classic on Dec. 1 against Eastside College Prep, the defending state Division 5 champions, a team that returned all of its players. The Panthers came out with full court pressure in racing to a 20-2 lead after one before taking a commanding 40-17 lead at the break. There was no let-up in the second half as Eastside powered to a 76-30 win. Top point scorers for Windsor were Sabrina Simili (9) and May (8).
The Jags were back in the win column against the Urban Blues on Friday, overcoming a slow start to finish strong in a 46-37 win. Pacing the attack were May (15 points), Allison Post (8 points, 8 rebounds) and Tori Russotti (4 points, 9 rebounds).
Windsor squared off with Gunn for the Consolation title on Dec. 3, playing to a 14-all tie after one before the Titans took a four-point halftime lead. Gunn took full advantage of an ice cold Jags’ offense after intermission in cruising to a 65-45 win. May paced the attack with 15 points, while other good efforts were had by Russotti (8 points) and Mattie Murphy (8 points, 10 rebounds).
