Windsor awarded forfeit victory against Rancho Cotate
It’s been said many times that a win is a win, no matter how it happens.
The Lady Jaguars tested that theory in a controversial, April 1 visit to perennial power Rancho Cotate, as the Cougars’ 3-1 win was reversed when it was determined that a pre-game rule was violated.  The result was a forfeit win for the Jaguars.
“In our NBL constitution there’s a rule about warming up- you have to hit low flight balls like a whiffle or squishy ball for a front toss,” WHS coach Morgan Rasmason explained. “You can use real balls but only for side toss. Rancho was hitting front toss in their cage with real balls which is illegal and resulted in the forfeit.”
The Jags coupled the win over the Cougars with a 7-2 loss at Montgomery two days later, pushing Windsor’s league record to 1-1 and 3-2 overall.
At press time the ladies were preparing to resume league action on April 9 at Ukiah, and will host Analy on Thursday, April 11.  The Jags will entertain Maria Carrillo on Tuesday, April 16.  All games start at 4 p.m.
Jags back on the diamond
The April 1 visit to Rancho Cotate was the first for Windsor in over two weeks due to recent storms, and the Jags were up to the task as pitcher Kayla Scott (6 IP, 8 hits, 2 ERs, 6 Ks) held the Cougars to solo runs in the first, third and fourth innings. Windsor scratched for its lone run in the fifth but Rancho came out on top, 3-1.
Collecting hits for the Jaguars were Kelly Tagnoli (1 for 2) and Savanna Cordova (1 for 3).
Windsor paid Montgomery a visit on April 3, with one bad inning sabotaging an otherwise solid outing. The Jags took a 1-0 advantage into the fifth before the Vikings pushed across five runs, giving them a lead they would not relinquish en route to a 7-2 win.
“We scored first and just coasted,” Rasmason noted. “There was no urgency or drive on our part to score more.  I think we’re getting it figured out and are finding that spark we need to be successful.”
Scott (4 IP, 3 hits, 2 ERs, 5 Ks) went the first four innings before giving way to reliever Savanna Cordova (2 IP, 1 hit, 0 ERs, K).  Top hitters were Scott (2 for 3, run), Moana Bullock (2 for 4), Cordova (1 for 3), Caitlyn Murphy (1 for 2) and Anis Acevedo (1 for 3).
Scott signs with St. Mary’s
Kayla Scott has signed a letter of intent to attend St. Mary’s College in Moraga on an athletic scholarship. Scott has been a mainstay in the Windsor line-up for four varsity seasons as the team’s top pitcher and hitter.
