Windsor to host Ukiah in title showdown on Jan. 30
Windsor served as the epicenter for high school girls wrestling on Saturday, Jan. 26, hosting the first annual Goddess of the Vine Tournament. The event featured 18 participating teams and some 220 wrestlers, including many of the top athletes in Northern California. The meet was considered the last big girls competition before the all-important post-season tournaments start in February.
Leading the way at the Goddess of the Vine tourney was 106-pound freshman Carmen Perez, who went 2-1 before losing to Brook Shattuck in the finals to settle for second place.
Also earning a second place medal was 111-pound sophomore Ivory Osborn, who pinned her first two opponents before losing a heartbreaking 5-4 decision in the finals.
Other Windsor medalists (in order of weight class) were; 111-pound Alondra Vasquez (1-2, 6th place), 116-pound Annie Frische (1-2, 7th place), 128-pound Bianca Correa (3-2, 4th place), 133-pound Maxine De Mars (6th place), 139-pound Annette De La Pena (5th place), 139-pound Nina Lynch (7th place) and 160-pound Leslie Hinojosa (5th place).

The Windsor boys team was equally impressive at the tough Mission San Jose Tournament on Jan. 25-26, turning in a great team performance to finish in second place.
Top wrestlers for the Jaguars were 154-pound Trent Silva, who continued his quest for state with a first-place medal. Other outstanding efforts came from 134-pound senior Brennan Brown (2nd place), 108-pound freshman Isaiah Rubio (3rd place), 120-pound senior Blake Fredrickson (2nd place), 115-pound sophomore Jon Fredrickson (4th place), 145-pound junior Justin Campbell (4th place) and senior heavyweight Austin Jacob (6th place, injury defaulted).
Falling just short of medals but picking up wins were 197-pound junior Alex Cruz and 222-pound junior Marco Ramirez.
Next up for the Jaguars is a showdown of league unbeatens when Windsor plays host to archrival Ukiah in a key dual meet on Wednesday, Jan. 30 (Senior Night). The first match starts at 6 p.m.
