The Lady Jaguars are gearing up for the fall tennis season and excitement is high for a great year in the newly aligned North Bay League.
Under returning coach Anna Kohtz, Windsor has been placed in the ultra competitive Oak Division, which also features outstanding teams from Maria Carrillo, Montgomery, Analy, Cardinal Newman and Santa Rosa.
With 13 returning veterans and another two coming back after a year layoff, the Jags figure to battle for the upper echelon in league, a position they haven’t been in for years.
“With the reorganization of the NBL and our placement in the Oak Division we’ll be facing tough opponents throughout,” Kohtz said. “But the team has game and will be set for every match.”
The core of top returning players includes singles standouts; seniors Mia Vera and Bella Fogal, junior Sorrelle D’Agosta and seniors Kayla Scott and Mary Janusevskis, who re-joined the team after a year hiatus.
In addition, returning doubles players are seniors Kimberly Nguyen and Ember D’Agosta and juniors Grace Nusair and Lauren McCabe. Sophomore Annie Gugel may be among the most improved players on the team.
Other returnees include sophomores Emily Mounts, Ashland Williams, Faith Gossma and Kamryn Crowley and junior Valeria Corona.
Promising newcomers to the squad are freshmen Priyana Matthew and Sophia Arenales and sophomore Hanne Walton, who will push the veterans for a starting doubles spot.
“We have an even deeper bench than last year,” Kohtz noted. “Our returning players continue to work hard and are improving daily.  I have no doubt any of these girls will be ready to step in should we need them.”
