Windsor pushes record to 11-13, hoping to extend season
The Lady Jaguars will have no margin for error when they play out the final string of North Bay League basketball games this week, likely needing a strong finish to land a spot in the postseason.
Windsor (11-13, 5-7) gained an even split in two NBL outings last week, combining a 59-51 win over Maria Carrillo with a 54-36 loss at Montgomery.
At press time the ladies were preparing to close out the league campaign with road visits to Ukiah (Feb. 6) and Cardinal Newman (Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m.).
The Jags wasted no time in their Jan. 31 home clash with Maria Carrillo, jumping all over the Pumas in a 25-9 first-quarter run. Windsor increased the advantage to 23 at the half and held off a strong Carrillo rally after intermission in an eventual 59-51 win.
Gabby Giddings paced the attack with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Other top efforts came from Hannah May (10 points, 4 boards, 2 assists, 1 steals), Mattie Murphy (9 points, 3 rebounds), Cecillia Smith (8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal), Pauline Woodard (4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals), Caitlyn Murphy (4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal), Tori Russotti (3 points, 12 rebounds) and Riley West (2 points, 1 point, 1 assist).
Windsor paid second place Montgomery a visit on Feb. 2, following up a 10-8 first quarter deficit with a pair of poor shooting stanzas en route to a 54-36 loss.
Smith led the way with 15 points and four rebounds), while other top scorers included Giddings (8 points, 9 boards, 2 blocks), Woodard (6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals), Mattie Murphy (4 points, 1 rebound) and May (3 points, 1 assist).
