The Lady Jaguars are hitting their mid-season stride this week in North Bay League softball action, scoring recent wins over Ukiah and Analy.
The victories lifted Windsor into a three-way tie for the top in the Oak Division standings with Rancho Cotate and Montgomery at 3-1, one game up on Analy (2-2).
At the time of this writing, the Jags (5-2 overall) were prepping for an April 16 home tilt with Maria Carrillo, followed by a critical clash with visiting Rancho Cotate on Thursday, April 18. Windsor will compete in the Napa Easter Tournament on April 19 and resume league play at home on April 23 against Montgomery. All home games start at 4 p.m.
Jags take two
Windsor opened its latest stretch on April 9 at Ukiah, a game moved to the JV diamond due to wet field conditions.  The ladies set the tone in the first inning with a pair of runs, adding four more in the fourth and six in the sixth to force an early stoppage in a 13-2 rout.
“We scored first, which is really important to set the tone of the game,” WHS coach Morgan Rasmason said. “They didn’t have great pitching (10 walks) but we also had some great hits.”
Kayla Scott, who signed a letter of intent to attend St. Mary’s College a day earlier, notched the win, while top hitters were Gracie Hernandez (2 RBIs), Savanna Cordova (2 RBIs), Caitlyn Murphy (1 RBI), Scott (1 RBI) and Anis Acevedo (2 RBIs). Of note was the play of Kasandra Jaramillo, who returned from an ankle injury to catch the final two innings.
Windsor entertained Analy in a much-anticipated game on April 11, the first home date of the season for the Jags. The game did not disappoint, developing into a see-saw battle that would decided late.  Windsor took an early 3-0 lead until the Tigers mounted a comeback to finally knot the contest at 3-3 in the fifth. Analy took a brief 4-3 lead in the sixth, but Windsor plated two runs in the bottom of the frame to escape with a 5-4 win.
Averie Gehrett was one of the offensive stars, doubling to lead off the game and scoring the winning run on an RBI knock from Cordova in the sixth.
“Coming off the win from Tuesday we showed up with a lot of energy that we needed against a tougher team like Analy,” Rasmason noted. “This game was a great team win and really showed who we are once we find that spark and drive to win.”
Scott earned the complete-game victory, while leading hitters included Acevedo (2 RBIs), Cordova (3 for 3, RBI), Gehrett (2 for 3, BB), Scott (2 for 4) and Mele Pearl (1 for 2, BB) and Moana Bulloch (sacrifice bunt).
