There are few “gimmies” on the North Bay League soccer pitch this fall, as the Lady Jaguars navigate what is always a brutally tough schedule.
Another case in point came in last week’s string of matches, beginning with a hard-fought 2-2 tie with Casa Grande, followed by successive losses to Cardinal Newman (2-0) and Montgomery (6-0).
The result pushed Windsor’s season record to 6-5-2 and 1-4-1 in the NBL.
At press time, the Jags were prepping for an Oct. 4 non-league match with visiting Rancho Cotate, before starting the second half of the NBL schedule at powerful Maria Carrillo on Thursday, Oct. 6 (4/6 p.m.). Windsor will host Ukiah next Tuesday, Oct. 11 (5/7 p.m.).
The Lady Jags opened a challenging stretch of games with a Sept. 27 date with visiting Casa Grande, jumping on the Gauchos with first-half goals from Katie Bianchi and Madi Baer. Assists went to Baer and Mackenzie Hernandez.
The Gauchos fought back in the second half, scoring two goals to send it into overtime knotted at 2-apiece. Neither team could find the net in a pair of 10-minute extra frames as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
“We let Casa back in the game in the second half on a couple of defensive miscues,” WHS coach Mark Archambault said. “We had plenty of opportunities in the second half and in the overtime periods but we could not find the back of the net.”
The Jags followed up a disappointing 2-0 setback at Cardinal Newman on Sept. 29 with another 6-0 shutout loss at first-place Montgomery on Saturday.
“We got out-played in both games and were unable to control the tempo,” Archambault noted. “In each game we were forced to play their game which is never a good situation. We know what our weaknesses are, now we just have to work on them.”
