Official practices are underway for the Lady Greyhound tennis
team, which looks to rebuild under new head coach Ken Haun.
A former top player in high school, college and active on the
tournament circuit, Haun brings in a wealth of experience as both a
player and coach. His work as a long-time private instructor and in
clinics should be a good fit for a rebuilding tennis program. Haun
will be assisted by former head coach Dean Studer.
³We¹ve only been practicing for a week, so I haven¹t had a
chance to see all of our girls yet due to vacations,² said Haun,
who has also committed to coaching the boy¹s tennis squad in the
spring. ³The only goal I have for the team is for us to be athletic
and sportsmanlike.²
The Lady Hounds graduated all of their top singles players from
last season, but will return a strong group of 8-10 players that
will form the nucleus of the team. Haun hopes to have a roster of
between 15-20 players.
Returning starters from last year include seniors Kara Barcelon
and Anne Loupy, sophomores Courtney Durler, Tracey Everitt, Shelby
Lago and Charity Stine. Other returnees are: senior Cathy Schmersal
and junior Claire Peyton. Newcomers include: sophomores Arielle
Larson, Kathleen Amtower and Laura Taylor. Two promising Freshmen
are Cali Haun and Aeden White. Junior transfer Lily Minkin may also
break into the starting lineup.
