The Lady Eagles continued to pile up wins on the league basketball circuit, claiming Fort Bragg (50-41), Lower Lake (62-44) and Willits (61-27) as their latest victims.
At press time, Cloverdale (5-0, 13-4) was preparing for its biggest test with a Jan. 16 visit to Clear Lake at 7 p.m., followed by a Friday, Jan. 18 tip-off at St. Helena at 7:30 p.m.
Ladies win three
The Eagles spotted visiting Fort Bragg a 26-23 halftime lead in their Jan. 8 clash, but reeled off an 18-4 third-quarter run to put Cloverdale ahead for good en route to a 50-41 win. Top scorers were Tehya Bird (19), Kayli Persons (10) Catherine Driver (8), Ahnna Randolph (8), Maci Hernandez (3) and Marina Lopez (2).
The Jan. 10 game at Lower Lake was a dominant one for the Eagles, racing to a 15-3 first-quarter lead on their way to a 62-44 rout.
“It was a good road win,” Cloverdale coach Rick Berry said. “We played a very poor second quarter, allowing them to cut the lead to five, but played a solid second half in outscoring them 38-22.”
Pacing the scoring attack were Bird (25), Driver (15), Lopez (9), Kaylee King (7), Hernandez (4) and Randolph (1).
On Monday the Eagles left nothing to chance in a home tilt with Willits, leading from the opening tip in an eventual 61-27 romp (no stats reported).
JV scores wins
The Cloverdale JV team, led by coach Mac Butler, was not to be upstaged this week, recording impressive wins over Fort Bragg (49-35) and Lower Lake (42-34) to push their league mark to 3-1 and 10-6 on the year.
Pacing the offensive attack against Fort Bragg were Summer Lands (21 points, 7 rebounds) and Faith Holloman (16 points, 5 steals).
Leading the scoring barrage against Lower Lake were Holloman (16 points, 7 steals), Lands (12 points, 5 boards) and Janaye Hammond (9 points, 8 rebounds).
“It was a great week for us,” Butler reported. “We’ve been battling injuries and sickness and are starting to finally pull it all together.”
