Cloverdale opens season with win over Rincon Valley Christian
The Lady Eagles are off to a winning start to the 2018-19 basketball campaign this week, scoring a 54-45 win over Rincon Valley Christian in the annual Foundation game on Nov. 20.
Veteran coach Rick Berry is back for another season, hoping to build on last year’s outstanding 20-7 record, a year that included an NCL 1 co-championship and a trip to the North Coast Section Division 5 playoffs.
The Eagles will return five players from last year’s squad, including first team all league junior forward and leading scorer Tehya Bird. She’ll be joined by senior guard/forward Kayli Persons, sophomore guard Catherine Driver, senior guard Marina Lopez and junior Maci Hernandez.  Â
Moving up to varsity are senior Angelina Cordova, junior Morgan Sceales and sophomores Kaylee King, Alyssa Moffett and Ahnna Randolph.

Cloverdale got great balance from the offense in the win over Rincon Valley Christian, led by top scorers; Bird (14), Hernandez (9), Driver (8), Persons (6), Moffett (5), Lopez (4), King (4) and Randolph (4).
Next up for the Lady Eagles is participation in the Head Royce Tournament from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1. Cloverdale will compete in the 70th annual Redwood Empire Invitational Basketball Tournament in Healdsburg on Dec. 5-8.
