The Cloverdale Eagles Cross Country team hosted Fort Bragg, Willits, Saint Helena and Pacific Union College Prep at Cloverdale’s Asti Winery three mile course on Wednesday Oct. 15.
The Lady Eagles scored against Fort Bragg, a very strong girls team that has two of the league’s top runners, and came away with a 23 to 29 victory as the Ladies top six runners continued their 2-plus years of winning in the NCL1 without a loss. Angela Romero led the team with a second place finish in a time of 21 min. 25 sec. over the hilly three mile course. This time set a new Cloverdale course record that has stood for eight years. Sophomore Katie Edwards, fourth place at 22:17, Anabelle Doyle,sixth at 23:04, Ariana Fernandez, eighth with 24:26,Marty Beard,10th with 25:27, Liliana Ramos, 12th with 26:35 and freshman Sami Santana 28:46 for 20th place in a 36-runner field. “All these time were their personal best on the course,” commented coach Clint Kemp.
The Boys Varsity Team lost to Fort Bragg but continue to improve each week. Emmett Lawson, 19:33, led the team for the 4th consecutive week with Nick Schnieder, Nick Rilea, Juan Gutierrez and Everett Conway setting new personal best times on the course.
The J.V. Boys also ran their best times of the year as they outran the team from Fort Bragg 27 to 28, led by Adrian Zavala (5th), Derek Rilea, Tyler Wanke, Joel Mendoza and Lucus Alhborn. “The all-freshman team continues to improve,” coach Kemp said.
The CHS team competed at Fort Bragg on Wednesday, Oct. 22, after the Reveille’s deadline.
