The girls soccer season is in the final stretch this week with
just one game left for the Tigers—an Oct. 27 meeting at Sonoma.
Last week, El Molino wrapped up the fall campaign with games
against Windsor and Healdsburg, falling by the scores of 8-0, and
3-0. Analy recorded a lopsided 7-0 win over visiting Healdsburg in
its lone outing.
Analy gets offensive against Hounds
The Tigers turned in one of their most potent offensive games of
the year against Healdsburg on Oct. 20 on Senior Night at Karlson
Field.
Analy said goodbye to senior four-year veterans; defender Caina
Field, forward Deanna Molkenbuhr, captain and midfielder Molly
Schuster, forward Darcy Falvey, forward/mid Angela Briones, goalie
Keaton Wheeler, and defender Kasey Groth.
All seniors started and the Tigers wasted no time in finding the
net, as Molkenbuhr took a pass from Riley Ping Medvigy 20 seconds
into the match and drove it home for a 1-0 lead. The Tigers scored
again 10 minutes later when Field drilled a free kick off of a
Healdsburg defender into the net for a 2-0 halftime advantage.
The Tigers cashed in on nearly all of their scoring chances
after the break, getting goals from Molkenbuhr (2), Nina
Henelsmith, Falvey (assisted by Kelley Benck), and Field in
cruising to a 7-0 win.
Defender Kasey Groth made a notable sliding tackle to save a
potential Healdsburg goal, and keepers Jenna Nagle and Allison
McIntyre shared the shutout in goal.
The Tigers (14-4-1) figure to get a decent spot in the upcoming
North Coast Section playoff tournament when the seeding committee
meets this Sunday to fill out the field. The NCS playoffs start
next week.
“I’m very proud of this team,” said Tiger coach Joseph Heil.
“We’re excited about the playoffs and there is a feeling on the
team that we could be trouble for anyone in the win-or-go-home
format. We’re hoping for a home game and to avoid a trip north to
Humboldt County.”
Lions put wraps on season
The El Mo ladies (1-15-1)  finished up the SCL campaign with
Friday’s game against visiting Healdsburg, paying tribute to
graduating seniors Renee Montes, Taylor Rae Gemini, Shainea
Cunningham, and Kaya Daleiden.
The Lions used the added emotion to battle the Hounds throughout
the game, eventually falling, 3-0.
“Even though we were dominant for most of the game, the soccer
gods didn’t let the ball enter the Healdsburg goal,” said El MO
coach Koos Fasel. “Many of the shots were stopped by their goalie,
the rest seemed to roll just by the post or crossbar.”
Overall the Lion’s coaching staff was pleased with their team’s
steady development from start to finish.
“I’m proud of how the girls have improved their game throughout
the season, despite the scores,” noted Fasel. “Hopefully when the
league is re-aligned, we can use our experience to make a
difference.”
