Hyemin Kim of South Korea overcame stormy weather and a talented international women’s field to win the inaugural POC Med Golf Classic at the Windsor Golf Club on Sunday.
The event, part of the Symetra Tour and a qualifier for the LPGA, was shortened to two rounds after Friday’s opening round was washed out due to rain. Play began under stormy skies and intermittent rain on Saturday, with the final round played on Sunday.
Kim took charge of the tournament with seven birdies in firing an opening round 5-under par 67, and carded a 2-under 70 on Sunday to take home the $15,000 purse. Her total of 7-under par 137 was just enough to hold off second-place finisher Benyapa Niphatsophon (70-69, 139) of Thailand by two strokes.
Rounding out the top five were Sophia Popov (71-69, 140), Lindsey Weaver (70-71, 141) and Nanna Koerstz Madsen (71-71, 142).
