• The Eagles JV softball team captured second place at its own tournament on Saturday, scoring wins over Healdsburg and Windsor before falling to Maria Carrillo in the title game.

The Cloverdale High School JV softball team had a great showing at its own tournament last weekend, winning two of three games to take home a second place trophy.
The Eagles opened the tourney with a 13-0 romp over Healdsburg, and defeated Windsor in a 15-13 barnburner in game two. The magic ran out in the title game, as Cloverdale fell to Maria Carrillo (no score reported).
Pitcher Hannah Bereschi led the team with her arm, while the Eagles’ offense turned in a strong collective performance.
Varsity opens with a win
The three-time NCL-1 champion Lady Eagles began defense of their league title at Middletown on March 31, blanking the Mustangs 9-0.
The win pushed Cloverdale’s unbeaten record to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in league.
Senior ace Teanne Edens was sensational, yielding just one hit and no runs while fanning 19 of 21 batters faced. She also helped herself at the plate with a double, home run and two runs driven in.
Other top hitters included Heather Sterling (3 for 3, run, 2 RBIs), Celeste Gastineau (1 for 3, run, RBI), Sydney Hage (1 for 4, run, 2 RBIs) and Hailey Donahoo (1 for 4, run, RBI).
Scheduling notes
The Eagles will be back on the field on April 5 (after press time) against Fort Bragg, followed by a Wednesday, April 6 home date with Calistoga. Cloverdale will visit Lower Lake on Friday, April 8 and return home to host Clear Lake on Tuesday, April 12. All games start at 4 p.m.
