Ladies finish 2019 campaign unbeaten in league, 15-4 overall
The Cloverdale junior varsity softball squad wrapped up an undefeated league season this month, running the NCL1 table to finish with a perfect 10-record and 15-4 overall.
Led by coach Mac Butler, the Eagles did it the old fashioned way, combining outstanding pitching from 14-game winner Grace Gloeckner (89 innings pitched, 80 Ks, 18 walks, 2.48 ERA), solid defense and a formidable offense that produced cartoon-like numbers.
The Eagles sported a gaudy team batting average of .448, outscoring season opponents 273-99.
Top hitters by batting average included Aaliyah Reyes (.537, HR, 3B, 3 2Bs, 32 RBIs), Sadie Toninato (.500), Gloeckner (.489, 25 RBIs), Makenna McNulty (.476, .639 on base average), Valerie Lorance (.455), Alyce Victoriano (.429), Summer Lands (.472, 4 2Bs, 19 RBIs), Maddison Langevin (.472, 15 RBIs), Katelyn Wilson (.463), Kelly Vine (.400), Renatta Montes (.394), Lillian Sullivan (.357), Lillian Robledo (.357, 22 RBIs) and Citaly Rameriz (.333).
The defense was equally good, led by Reyes at catcher, Lands at first base, McNulty and Langevin at second, Robledo at shortstop and Wilson at third. Patrolling the open spaces in the outfield were Sullivan, Montes and Toninato, with each making run saving catches in crucial situations.
